OUR PILLARS

We’re stronger together. We’ve got your back. Support each other through good times and bad.

When you know what your pillars are, life becomes much easier. You can focus on your life and what it stands for instead of worrying about the things that don’t matter.

FATHERS DAY 2019 CELEBRATION

Venue: Naivasha Medium Prison Facility
Date: 14.06.2019
Theme: Restoring Boychild Self-Worth

SPORTS AND EDUTAINMENT

Basic Principles for treatment of prisoners adopted and proclaimed by general assembly resolution 45/111 of 14th December 1990:

“With the participation and help of the community and social institutions, and with due regard to the interests of victims, favorable conditions shall be created for the reintegration of the ex-prisoner into society under the best possible conditions”

31st December 2014 was the beginning of the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners through edutainment. Multichoice (K) Limited gracefully obliged to Mr. Kiarie Mwangi’s request to donate GOTV decoder to inmates as part of “digitika Migration” from analogue to digital broadcast technology. An opportunity for inmates to have access to news and sports information – locally and internationally.

April 2015 ushered live broadcast of Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches on GOTV Sports channel. An opportunity for ex-footballers incarcerated to touch base with their former colleagues, clubs and keeping abreast of sports around the country and world.

Kiarie Mwangi has remained instrumental in continued provision of GOTV decoders at penal institutions within Nairobi over the last three (3) years including Langata Women Maximum Prison and Industrial Area remand facility.

Who are we?

FARIJI is currently registered as a Kenyan Based Community based organization (CBO number 03232) which uses sports as a platform of community engagement.

FARIJI appreciates the use of sports as the “glue” that “fuels” conversations at the community borrowing heavily from Nelson Mandela quote; “Sports has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to the youth in a language they understand. Sports can create hope where once there was only despair”

FARIJI has over the period curved its niche as a brand associated with:
Ø driving sporting activities within penal institutions as a rehabilitation and reintegration tool
Ø Being part of government policy makers in using sports as a community engage platform to fight global terrorism
Ø Driving mental health conversations using sports.

GUIDING PILLARS – YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

Youth Engagement is our commitment to helping young people find their voice and have an impact on their communities. In order for these youth to become leaders, we need to give them the opportunity.

Economic Empowerment

Working hard for our dreams as youth. We're not there yet, but we're getting closer to our goals.

Sports, Arts & Culture

We love sports—be it the kind that keeps us fit, or the kind that makes us feel like we’re part of something bigger than ourselves as youth.

Health and Psycho / Social Support

We're here for you and your health goals. Let us be your inspiration, cheerleader and guide through the ups and downs of life.

BREAKING THE CYCLE

PROBLEM STATEMENT/ANALYSIS:

-> Over the last fifteen (15) years either by death through criminal activities or incarceration we have increased number of children growing up in dysfunctional family set-up from formative years to adolescence.

-> Lack of role models within the community has led to increased number of youth experimenting with alcohol, drugs and substance abuse.

-> Youth & hopelessness. Disrupted education through low transition rate from primary to secondary coupled with rise in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s) and HIV prevalence especially in low end income areas.

"Life is stressful, it takes time to get back to yourself. I've been there, and you will be too. Don't be afraid to reach out. We are here for you."
